9 things you shouldn't pack in your carry-on luggage
Packing your luggage and going through airport security is one of the biggest hassles of traveling, especially if you have a carry-on bag.
Bringing a carry-on bag can save you money on checked baggage fees, so you can pack carefully and take everything with you. Before filling your bag, think about what you shouldn't take, Money Talks writes.
Here are some items that you should exclude from your carry-on luggage:
Flammable substances
Be careful with flammable substances on the plane. For example, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) does not allow flammable aerosols exceeding the limits for liquids and toiletries in your carry-on bag.
However, you may bring one disposable lighter or Zippo lighter in your carry-on bag in case you need a light.
Firearms
You are not allowed to carry firearms or ammunition in your carry-on bag.
TSA will allow you to carry these items in your checked baggage, but you must meet certain requirements. For example, you must put an unloaded firearm in a locked container with hard walls to bring it in your checked baggage. In addition, you must declare the items to the airline at check-in.
Other weapons
It's not just firearms. Other weapons are not allowed either.
According to the TSA, knives and stun guns are not allowed in your carry-on luggage.
Exotic items such as sword canes and even toy weapons such as foam swords are not allowed in your carry-on bag. You must pack them in your checked baggage or leave them behind.
Alcohol
If you want to take alcohol with an alcohol content of 24% to 70%, you can bring it in your carry-on bag, but it must be in retail packaging and comply with other rules for drinking liquids, such as the limit of 3.4 ounces or less.
Bulky jacket
If you want to save space in your luggage, wear your bulky jacket to the airport. When you get on the plane, you can tuck it under your seat or hold it in your lap.
Regular neck pillow
Instead of stuffing a regular neck pillow in your carry-on luggage, it's better to buy an inflatable neck pillow. It takes up much less space in your carry-on bag.
Beach accessories
If you're going to the beach, you might be tempted to bring everything: beach towels, sunglasses, flip flops, and sun hats. However, these things can take up a lot of space in your carry-on bag, and they're not that expensive to buy. Consider buying them locally.
Guidebooks and reading materials
You can easily download an app to take care of your needs. You can also download books to your smartphone and use the translation feature.
Styling products
It may be more appropriate to store items such as hair dryers and curling irons in your checked baggage rather than putting them in your carry-on. They are often bulky and take up space. In fact, you may not even need a hairdryer. Many hotels and vacation homes offer hair dryers to guests.
