79-year-old American woman fulfills her dream and visits 193 countries
A 79-year-old woman has achieved her goal of traveling to every country in the world, and she can finally declare that her dream has come true.
Luisa Yu said that ever since she was a young girl in the Philippines, she has "always" dreamed of traveling. "When I [went] to the movies, I [saw] this beautiful background of scenery, nature, rivers, mountains, and it fascinated me," Yu recalled. "That's why I always thought that one day I would go to these places, I would travel." Yu said she came to the U.S. as an exchange student when she was 23 and started traveling when she could, Aol reports.
After working in the medical technology industry, she transitioned to a travel agent to have more opportunities to take time off to travel.
Over the past five decades, she has traveled wherever she could: from European countries like Italy to Asian countries like Thailand, and on to African countries like Libya and Middle Eastern countries like Iran.
She later said she had decided to visit all 193 countries that are members of the UN.
Yu achieved her goal on November 9, 2023, crossing Serbia off her travel list after friends convinced her to wait to visit the Balkan country last.
