Glasgow Airport has confirmed that Swiss leisure carrier Edelweiss will launch a seasonal service to Zurich in summer 2026. The route begins on 29 May 2026 and will operate twice weekly - Mondays and Fridays - through to 14 September 2026. Airport representatives describe the link as a welcome addition that provides direct access between Scotland’s largest city and Switzerland’s financial and cultural hub during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Zurich is Switzerland’s biggest city and an important gateway for leisure and business movement. Edelweiss is positioning the Glasgow route as suitable for short breaks, longer holidays, and onward Alpine trips. The connection also reinforces the carrier’s presence within the Lufthansa Group network, which already maintains links between Scotland and continental Europe. Airport management notes that the Zurich flights add a fresh choice without requiring changes at other airports.

In announcing the launch, AGS Airports’ Aviation Director Chris Tibbett highlighted the city’s cultural attractions, lakeside setting, and museum scene, alongside its proximity to the Alps. He added that Zurich Airport’s efficient hub offers smooth onward connections within Switzerland and further afield. The route is seasonal, with flights currently available for purchase on the Edelweiss website. There have been no announcements regarding extensions beyond mid-September.

Places More Accessible with the Zurich Link

  • Lake Zurich promenade and cultural districts
  • Lucerne and Mount Pilatus day trips via rail
  • Interlaken, Jungfrau region, and Alpine hiking routes
  • Swiss museum circuits, including Kunsthaus Zürich
  • Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen

These destinations often appeal to city-break fans, outdoor enthusiasts, and cultural travellers looking for easy rail-to-scenery transitions. Zurich’s transport network makes shifting between urban sights and mountain valleys unusually straightforward.

The addition of Edelweiss strengthens our long-standing partnership with the Lufthansa Group and enhances travel options for both leisure and business passengers across Scotland.
Chris Tibbett, Aviation Director at AGS Airports

For Scottish travellers, the summer addition folds a major Swiss centre into Glasgow’s network without detours through London or mainland hubs. Zurich offers architecture, lake swimming spots in warm months, and rapid rail links into mountain territory. For Swiss visitors heading the other way, Glasgow delivers museums, live music, access to the west coast, and routes into the Highlands. The route may be seasonal, but it neatly widens city-to-city options on both sides.
