Wizz Air Pushes Six Abu Dhabi Routes Back to January
Wizz Air has postponed six planned Abu Dhabi routes until 10 January 2027, delaying services that were due to start on 25 and 27 October. The affected routes connect Abu Dhabi with Budapest, Katowice, Krakow, Sofia, Cluj-Napoca and Larnaca. Wizz Air blamed continued regional airspace restrictions, which are forcing longer routings and technical refuelling stops on the A321neo aircraft planned for these services.
If You Were Due to Fly This Autumn
- Booking: Check your Wizz Air account and email for a direct update.
- Cancellation: You can choose reimbursement or re-routing if your flight is cancelled.
- New travel: Check the airline’s offer before booking a replacement flight yourself.
- Other bookings: Review hotels, transfers and separate connections before choosing new dates.
- Proof: Keep the dated cancellation or schedule-change notice.
EASA extended its Iraq conflict-zone bulletin on 30 September until 16 November, leaving its existing recommendation unchanged. Covered operators are advised not to fly within Baghdad FIR at any altitude. Wizz Air said avoiding Iraqi airspace creates longer routings and can require technical refuelling stops. Combined with current fuel prices, the airline said the affected Abu Dhabi services are not commercially viable under present conditions.
Budapest and Katowice services were originally due to start on 25 October, followed by Larnaca, Sofia, Krakow and Cluj on 27 October. Together, the six routes were scheduled to provide 20 weekly Abu Dhabi flights. Wizz Air has also suspended flights to Jordan until 25 October after EASA revised its Jordan advisory to recommend that covered operators avoid the country’s airspace.
“Affected customers will be informed directly about their options, and we will continue to monitor conditions ahead of the revised launch date."
Anyone holding an affected booking should check Wizz Air’s message before changing other parts of the trip. EU cancellation rules provide a choice between reimbursement and re-routing. Separate compensation depends partly on when the airline personally notified the passenger, with the 14-day threshold important, and can also be affected by extraordinary circumstances. Keeping the original booking and cancellation notice will make any later claim easier to document.
