WestJet and AMFA Resume Negotiations, Avoiding Further Cancellations

WestJet and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) have agreed to return to the bargaining table, effectively preventing further network cancellations. This decision was made during a session with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), where WestJet sought arbitration in the ongoing negotiations.

The CIRB indicated that it would require more time and additional submissions from both parties before deciding if the collective bargaining should be resolved through arbitration. In the interim, the AMFA has rescinded its strike notice, and both parties are committed to continuing negotiations to find a resolution.

Diederik Pen, President of WestJet Airlines and Group Chief Operating Officer, acknowledged the impact of the initial cancellations on guests and employees, expressing gratitude for their patience. He emphasized the airline's commitment to avoiding further disruptions by resuming negotiations.
