Rail services across part of Milan’s network will be suspended at the end of November due to major infrastructure work linked to the new Milano Porta Romana stop. Trenord, the regional railway operator for Lombardy that manages most suburban and regional services around Milan, has confirmed that several lines will face timetable changes, detours, or temporary replacement options during the works.

The interruption will take place:

  • 22:30 on Friday, 28 November – start of suspension
  • 05:00 on Monday, 1 December – end of suspension
  • Affected section: Milano San Cristoforo ↔ Milano Lambrate

No trains will operate on this stretch for the entire weekend while engineering teams complete essential works for the future Porta Romana station, including track adjustments and technical installations required to integrate the new stop into the network.

Trenord has shared the full list of service changes in stations, on its website, and through its mobile app. Passengers are advised to look at the latest timetables before setting off, as the works will change the usual running of services throughout the weekend. Longer journey times are possible, especially at peak hours, so travellers should plan ahead and allow extra time when connecting with other services across the network.

While the works restrict direct travel across Milan for now, the project will make it easier to reach several important districts once the new station is open. Porta Romana connects areas with universities, business hubs, cultural venues, and residential neighbourhoods in the south-east of the city, improving overall mobility across the region.

Although the disruption may cause inconvenience over the weekend, the closure is part of ongoing work to upgrade Milan’s rail network. The new Porta Romana stop should help reduce pressure on busy lines and make it simpler for people to move around the city. Passengers planning to travel during this period should check the updated schedules ahead of time to avoid unexpected changes and make sure they can complete their journeys without unnecessary delays.
