Virgin Australia Brings Back Holiday Packages
Virgin Australia has returned to the holiday packages market with the launch of Virgin Australia Holidays. The platform allows customers to book flights and accommodation together in one transaction, marking a broader move into leisure travel beyond flight-only bookings. The relaunch has been developed with travel marketplace Hopper and comes as more Australians look for simpler ways to organise trips.
The airline first launched Virgin Australia Holidays in 2003, before the service was discontinued in 2020 during the pandemic. Its return follows research by Virgin Australia and YouGov, which found that 50 per cent of surveyed Australians want easier and more time-efficient holiday planning. The same research said 75 per cent would be more likely to book a package through their preferred airline.
"Virgin Australia is continually seeking new ways to enhance the customer experience, with Virgin Australia Holidays directly responding to evolving consumer expectations."
What the New Packages Include
Virgin Australia Holidays offers bundled flights and accommodation across selected domestic and international destinations, including Bali and Cairns. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn and redeem points on holiday packages, as well as earn Status Credits on eligible flights.
- Packages start at $745 per person
- Sale bookings close at 11:59pm AEST on 27 May 2026
- Travel dates run between 15 July 2026 and 16 March 2027
The new platform may make trips to popular beach and city destinations easier to plan, especially where flights and hotels are usually booked separately. Bali remains one of the clearest examples, with Denpasar included in the launch sale, while Cairns gives domestic travellers access to the Great Barrier Reef, tropical north Queensland and rainforest day trips with fewer booking steps.
The return of Virgin Australia Holidays points to a practical shift in how people want to book leisure travel. Price still matters, but time, simplicity and loyalty benefits now carry real weight. Bundled packages will not suit every trip, yet they can help travellers compare costs faster, use frequent flyer benefits and organise holidays with less admin before departure.
