As part of the U.S. efforts to restore stability and economic development in Libya, the government will continue to support the country's civil aviation and airport security sector. The most recent decision on this issue included a $4.5 million grant for staff training.

According to Libyaherald, the meeting of the steering committee of the Ministry of Transport of Libya was chaired by Deputy Minister of Transport for Air Transport Khaled Swesi with the participation of the US Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland, US Deputy Secretary of State Harris and US Chargé d'Affaires Berndt.

The grant will be used to train employees of Sebha Airport, the main airport in southern Libya. The training will be conducted by the American company Culmen International.

The US Embassy commented, "The goal is to build Libya's ties both internally and with the rest of the world. As part of this programme, the United States is providing an additional $4.5 million for Sebha Airport through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Counterterrorism's Libyan Aviation and Airport Security Programme."

Culmen International has been tasked with creating specialized aviation and airport security training programmes through a centre established in Libya.
