In a span of ten days, from May 26 to June 4, TSA officers at Dallas Love Field Airport intercepted ten loaded firearms in travelers' carry-on items. The firearms were discovered during routine X-ray screenings at the security checkpoint, prompting immediate intervention by the Dallas Airport Police.

The TSA's X-ray unit detected the firearms, leading to a closer inspection by TSA officials. The Dallas Airport Police subsequently removed the weapons and confirmed their presence. It is noteworthy that the TSA does not confiscate firearms; instead, law enforcement handles the situation, determining the necessary legal actions.

Amy Williams, TSA's Federal Security Director for the airport, emphasized the correct procedure for traveling with firearms: pack the unloaded gun in a hard-sided locked case, declare it at the airline check-in counter, and ensure it is transported in the plane's cargo hold. This procedure ensures the firearm remains inaccessible during the flight.

Travelers caught with firearms at checkpoints face substantial financial penalties. Depending on the circumstances, fines can reach up to $15,000. This applies universally, regardless of whether the traveler holds a concealed carry permit, as such permits do not allow firearms to be brought onto airplanes.

Firearm incidents at Dallas Love Field Airport have seen fluctuations over the years. From 2018 to the present, the number of guns intercepted annually has varied, with 127 firearms caught in 2022 and 73 already detected in 2024 as of June 4.

Passengers are allowed to travel with firearms only in checked baggage, and the TSA provides detailed guidelines on their website. Gun owners must also be aware of and comply with varying state and local firearm laws to avoid violations.
