Since 18 May, Avanti West Coast has shaken up its timetable, now running 1957 train services every week, a noticeable jump aimed at handling the growing flow of travellers. This update introduces 62 new departures and adds over 28000 additional seats per week. The changes affect routes linking London with the West Midlands, North Wales, Liverpool, and Glasgow. These adjustments are intended to support the expected rise in summer travel across key domestic rail corridors.

Around a quarter of the updated services are now operated by the modern Evero fleet, offering improved onboard accessibility and interior features. A few morning trains leaving North Wales now pull into London before 9am, giving people enough time to catch another train or do a round trip in one day without rushing. Weekend frequencies were also increased, which may benefit passengers attending cultural events, making short leisure trips, or seeking more flexible travel options across various regions.

We’re excited to have introduced our new timetable – one that delivers on our commitment to improve connectivity to the regions we serve, with the aim of encouraging more people to travel by train.
Andy Mellors, Managing Director at Avanti West Coast

Liverpool now has faster and more direct rail access. In Liverpool, you can check out the Beatles Story, a museum right by the revamped Royal Albert Dock, or wander around old buildings and spots that tell stories from the city’s life as a busy seaport. These improvements may support short visits and cultural tourism by making travel to and from the city more convenient. Services to Glasgow were also strengthened, offering better links to its galleries, architecture, and performance venues.

Increased frequencies also impact routes to Birmingham and North Wales. Travellers heading to Birmingham can visit locations like the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery or sample the city’s diverse cuisine. Meanwhile, added weekend trains from Chester and Holyhead expand access to natural landscapes and popular walking areas near the Snowdonia range. The revised timetable strengthens rail links between urban centres and surrounding countryside.

The new schedule is designed to reduce waiting times, increase seating capacity, and offer updated trains on more routes. These changes make certain parts of the UK more reachable by public transport, helping to shift some demand away from road travel. For both local and international visitors, the improvements create more practical rail options for reaching destinations across England, Scotland, and Wales.
