Transavia has opened its summer programme with a new route between Eindhoven and Olbia in Sardinia, adding another connection to its Mediterranean schedule. The first arrival was greeted at the airport by local officials, reflecting continued interest in Italian island destinations. The airline is increasing the number of flights to southern Europe as demand for sunny holiday locations remains high during the main summer travel period.

The expansion includes additional routes to Sardinia and Sicily, with Palermo, Alghero and Catania joining the airline’s schedule. Compared with last summer, the number of flights to Italian island destinations has increased by more than 65%, while the number of routes has grown from three to seven. These changes reflect sustained interest in coastal destinations offering beaches, historic towns and a slower pace of travel away from larger mainland cities.

New routes and first departures

  • 2 April: Eindhoven – Olbia
  • 2 April: Amsterdam – Palermo
  • 6 April: Amsterdam – Alghero
  • 26 April: Rotterdam – Catania

Alongside new Italian connections, several destinations previously offered only as charter flights are now available for regular booking. These include Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Antalya, Karpathos, Skiathos and Lesbos. Overall, Transavia plans to operate 128 routes to 84 destinations during the summer season, providing a wider range of options for those planning holidays across southern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean.

The larger network improves access to coastal regions known for local food, historic towns and varied landscapes. In Sardinia, travellers can visit well-known beaches such as Costa Smeralda as well as smaller inland villages known for local traditions and slower daily life. Sicily offers both coastal areas and historic city centres, including Palermo and Catania, where architecture, markets and regional food reflect the island’s long cultural history. The new connection to Alghero also provides a direct option for visiting north-west Sardinia, an area recognised for walking paths, regional cuisine and quieter resorts.

More flights to Sardinia and Sicily this summer mean travellers can choose between more departure cities and travel dates. Routes that were previously sold only as charter flights are now available for regular booking, making these islands easier to plan without depending on limited package schedules.
