Tolls on the famous bridge in England may be raised

Plymouth City Council has approved a 15% increase in tolls on the Tamar Bridge, which has outraged local residents and activists.

According to the new plan, the toll for cars will increase by £3 to £5.60, and for users of the Tamar Tag electronic system - by £1.50 to £2.80. This was reported by the BBC.

The proposals will be put to Cornwall and Plymouth full councils for ratification before a request is made to the government.

"Costs are not going down, car numbers are not going up, and we don't have financial calculations that have a sufficient margin of safety or are medium term so that we can plan our way through this," explained Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council.

However, opponents of the price increase note that the innovation will put an additional burden on local residents and exacerbate the problem of transport accessibility.

The request to the Minister of Transport will be forwarded after the proposals are ratified by the full councils of Cornwall and Plymouth at the end of this month.
