Marriott International, in collaboration with Calgary-based developer Truman, is preparing to launch three new hotel projects in the city’s core. The W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary and a hotel under the Autograph Collection brand are scheduled to open between 2028 and 2030. All three properties will be located around Stampede Park, in a district that continues to grow as a hub for large-scale events, performances and downtown activity.

The hotels will occupy sites near the corner of Macleod Trail and 15 Avenue SE, directly adjacent to the BMO Centre convention complex and the Scotiabank Saddledome. The development includes two high-rise towers with hotel and residential functions, plus a third building constructed within the Stampede Park grounds. These additions are expected to help address accommodation shortages during citywide festivals and ease the strain on existing infrastructure during peak travel periods.

Anyone booking a room at these hotels won’t need a car to reach Olympic Plaza. It’s just around the corner and often buzzing with outdoor concerts, spontaneous shows or whatever the season brings to its open space. During the summer months, shallow pools and shaded benches create space for relaxation, while in winter the area becomes a free public skating rink. Walk a bit north and you’ll find Riverfront Lane, a calm stretch by the Bow River where trees line the path, the skyline peeks through, and there’s room to wander or simply stop and take a breather without leaving downtown.

Inside the Stampede Park itself, visitors can access pedestrian corridors that connect major venues and open plazas used during festivals or outdoor exhibitions. During the Calgary Stampede and other public events, the grounds regularly host pop-up food markets, casual seating zones and live performances on small stages. Nearby, the Saddledome’s public square provides a calm gathering spot lined with trees and benches, often used by both locals and tourists.

The new hotels, positioned directly within this active corridor, may reshape how travelers experience Calgary’s city center. Rather than navigating long distances or relying on transport, guests will be able to move on foot between accommodation, event venues and informal public areas. The integration of lodging into a dense cultural zone supports easier movement, better access and a more grounded connection to the city’s daily rhythm.
