Beachgoers near Naples are being warned not to leave parasols, chairs or other equipment on public beaches overnight to hold a preferred spot. Authorities in Torre del Greco have stepped up checks after repeated complaints about belongings being left unattended for days. The practice is prohibited on free beaches after sunset, and anyone breaking the rule can face confiscation and a fine of up to €500.

What Beachgoers Need to Know

  • Location: Torre del Greco, near Naples
  • Affected area: Free public beaches, including Laghetto
  • Prohibited: Leaving parasols, loungers, tents or other beach equipment after sunset
  • Timing: The rule applies after sunset each day
  • Enforcement: Coast Guard and municipal police checks
  • Penalty: Up to €500
  • Other consequence: Unattended equipment may be removed and seized
  • Who it affects: Anyone using the free beach, not only tourists

The latest sweep focused on the Laghetto area, where the Torre del Greco Coast Guard worked with municipal police under the Mare e Laghi Sicuri 2026 operation. Officers removed and seized around 40 items, including parasols, beach chairs and small tables. Authorities said the equipment had been occupying public sand continuously so its owners could return later and reclaim the same spaces.

The enforcement is intended to keep Torre del Greco’s free beaches available to people who are actually using them that day. By removing unattended parasols, chairs and tables, local authorities are preventing sections of public sand from being informally claimed for hours or even days. Visitors can still bring their own beach equipment, but they need to take it away when they leave rather than using it to reserve space for later.

Anyone planning a beach day in the area should distinguish between personal belongings left on the sand and a booked sunbed at a licensed beach club. Leaving personal items overnight does not create a reservation and may leave you without the equipment when you return. Arriving earlier in the day remains the safer option, while people using free beaches should pack up before sunset rather than trying to secure tomorrow’s spot.
