TAP Connects Porto with Sal This October
TAP Air Portugal is adding a direct link between Porto and Sal in Cabo Verde, giving northern Portugal a new nonstop option to the Atlantic archipelago. The service begins on 25 October 2026 and will operate with Airbus A320neo aircraft. Sal becomes TAP’s seventh intercontinental destination from Porto, joining New York, Boston, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Luanda and Praia.
When the New Porto–Sal Flights Will Operate
- Route: Porto (OPO)–Sal (SID)
- Airline: TAP Air Portugal
- Launch: 25 October 2026
- Frequency: Twice weekly
- Seasonality: Year-round, with different IATA winter and summer timetables
- Winter: Porto on Thursdays and Sundays at 20:50; Sal on Fridays and Mondays at 01:20
- Summer: Porto on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 21:05; Sal on Thursdays and Sundays at 02:35
The operating days will change between the IATA winter and summer seasons, while the route will continue with two flights a week in each direction. TAP has also expanded Porto flying this year with services to Terceira in the Azores and Praia in Cabo Verde, both launched in July. The airline now operates more than 130 direct flights a week from Porto across its wider network.
Sal is best known for the beaches around Santa Maria, but the island also has the Pedra de Lume salt pans inside an extinct volcanic crater and the Buracona lava pool on the west coast. The direct service removes the need for a connection in Lisbon for Porto-based travellers, making short stays and beach holidays on the island easier to plan.
The new flight is most useful for travellers in northern Portugal who previously had to connect or travel south before heading to Sal. Two weekly departures do not offer daily flexibility, but they create a straightforward option for week-long or long-weekend trips. With Praia already served from Porto, TAP will now offer direct access to two different parts of Cabo Verde from the city.
