This winter, there is an abundance of business class award space available between the U.S. and Europe on TAP Air Portugal, a Star Alliance member. Flights from New York JFK, Newark, Boston, Washington Dulles, Miami, and Chicago offer up to nine business class award seats per flight.

Travelers can fly to and from Lisbon, with connections to numerous other destinations, and there is also a non-stop flight from Newark to Porto. Points from American Express, Chase, Capital One, and Bilt can be transferred to Air Canada Aeroplan to book these flights, with routes like Chicago to Lisbon typically costing 60,000 points each way.

An even better deal has been identified through Avianca LifeMiles, where a one-way business class ticket from New York JFK to Lisbon costs just 35,000 miles plus $28 in taxes and fees. Points from American Express, Citibank, Capital One, and Bilt transfer to LifeMiles, and LifeMiles also offers promotions selling miles for as low as 1.3 cents each. This allows travelers to secure a one-way business class ticket for under $500.

The discounted rate applies only to one-way tickets; return flights are priced at 63,000 LifeMiles or 60,000 Air Canada Aeroplan points. LifeMiles charges a $150 change fee and a $200 cancellation fee to redeposit miles. This pricing strategy is consistent with LifeMiles’ approach to managing award availability and cost, often adjusting prices below the standard award chart.

This development provides a cost-effective way to experience luxury travel to Europe, emphasizing the importance of monitoring award space and pricing across different frequent flyer programs. Travelers can make the most of their points and miles for a premium winter travel experience.
