Summer Memory Train 2024 Brings Joy and Connection to Travelers
Epping Forest District Council’s Community Development and Wellbeing team organized a special day trip for residents with dementia or mild cognitive impairment, offering a unique travel experience on the Epping Ongar Railway. This memorable journey from North Weald to Ongar provided an opportunity for participants and their companions to enjoy a scenic ride, complete with entertainment and a delicious lunch.
Passengers embarked on a picturesque journey through the forest, soaking in the district's beautiful countryside views. This initiative highlights the significance of travel as a means of connection and happiness for individuals living with dementia, showcasing how travel can bring joy, connection, and new memories to all.
The Epping Ongar Railway, which winds through some of Essex's finest countryside, offers passengers a chance to experience steep gradients and unique station stops. Travelers can enjoy vintage buses from Epping Station to North Weald, enhancing the historical charm of the journey. The route also includes restored heritage features such as the 1940s LNER station at North Weald and the award-winning Great Eastern Railway station at Ongar.
