Snow Disrupts Bucharest Flights as 58 Vehicles Clear Runways

Air traffic at Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport and Băneasa – Aurel Vlaicu Airport is continuing under heavy snowfall and strong winds, with drifting snow complicating ground operations. Airport authorities confirmed that teams are working continuously to keep runways, taxiways and aprons operational as winter conditions persist across the capital. Visibility has also been reduced at times due to gusting winds carrying loose snow across airfield surfaces.

A total of 58 snow-clearing vehicles are in use across the two airports. Crews are treating surfaces and removing accumulated snow in order to maintain safe aircraft movements. Despite these efforts, several services have been affected by the weather, leading to cancellations and diversions during the worst of the storm. Airport management stated that operations are being adjusted in real time depending on runway conditions.

Flights LOT 643 and 644 between Warsaw and Bucharest have been cancelled, along with Tarom RO210 from Chișinău and Tarom 810 from Suceava. Three inbound services were diverted: Ryanair 5262 from Dublin landed in Varna, WizzAir 3290 from Porto diverted to Sofia, and Hisky 236 from Tel Aviv was rerouted to Cluj.

Some departures and arrivals may also be delayed because aircraft require de-icing after boarding, and ground operations are moving more slowly in heavy snow.

Severe winter weather can alter flight schedules within hours, even when snow clearance teams are working at full capacity. Travellers passing through Bucharest should allow extra time at the airport and confirm the status of their flight directly with their airline. As long as snowfall and de-icing continue, departure times may change.
