China Eastern Airlines has launched the first non-stop service linking Dublin with Shanghai, giving Ireland a direct connection to mainland China’s largest city. The route is now the longest scheduled non-stop flight operated at Dublin Airport. Its first arrival, MU231, touched down shortly after 7.30am on 20 July, followed by the inaugural outbound service, MU232, later that morning for Shanghai.

Dublin–Shanghai Flight Schedule

  • Route: Dublin Airport to Shanghai Pudong International Airport
  • Airline: China Eastern Airlines
  • Launch date: 20 July 2026
  • Frequency: Three flights per week
  • Operating days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Aircraft: Airbus A350-900
  • Flight numbers: MU232 outbound; MU231 inbound
  • Scheduled departure: 10.55am from Dublin
  • Scheduled arrival: 6.30am the following day
  • Flight time: Around 12 hours and five minutes
  • Cabins: Business, Premium Economy and Economy
  • Booking: Tickets are available through China Eastern

China Eastern is operating the route with three cabin classes: Business, Premium Economy and Economy. Business seats convert into fully flat beds, while Premium Economy provides additional space. The Airbus A350-900 also has larger windows, improved cabin air and a quieter interior than older long-haul aircraft. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available across the airline’s wide-body fleet, although passengers should check connection conditions before departure.

The direct service makes Shanghai easier to reach for visits to the Bund, Yu Garden and the skyscrapers of Lujiazui. China Eastern also offers connections at Pudong Airport to Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Kunming, alongside international routes to Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok and Bali. Dublin passengers can now begin their Asian journey in Shanghai instead of changing planes elsewhere before arriving in China.

The route removes a connection but not the need to plan a long journey carefully. Irish ordinary passport holders can currently enter China without a visa for eligible stays of up to 30 days, with the policy extended until 31 December 2026. Other passport holders must check their own rules. Anyone connecting in Shanghai should also confirm baggage arrangements and leave enough time between separate bookings.
