Travel enthusiasts and history buffs are in for a treat on Wednesday, June 12, from 3 pm to 6 pm, at the Cambrian Railway building in Oswestry. This special drop-in event offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a return train journey to Weston Wharf, all while learning about the rich history and future plans for this iconic site.

Attendees can look forward to a delightful train ride provided by Cambrian Heritage Railways, with special trips scheduled at 4 pm and 5 pm. The journey will take passengers through the charming suburbs of Oswestry and offer scenic views of open fields, culminating at Weston Wharf nearly two miles to the south.

This event is part of an initiative to update the public on the current roof repairs and Shropshire Council’s broader vision to restore the Cambrian Railway building to its former glory. Visitors will have the chance to view historical photos and shared memories of the building, including contributions from local school pupils.

Staff from Shropshire Council, alongside experts from historic building specialists Donald Insall Associates, will be on hand to discuss the potential uses for the building and reveal findings from recent studies on its condition. This interaction provides a comprehensive understanding of the restoration efforts and future prospects.

For those who wish to contribute their own memories and stories about the building, submissions can be made through the Shropshire Council website. Paper forms are also available at Oswestry Library and can be returned to the Cambrian Railway building.

This event offers a unique blend of scenic travel and historical exploration, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in local heritage and railway history. Don't miss this chance to be part of the Cambrian Railway's journey into the future.
