Ryanair will withdraw completely from Bremen Airport in northern Germany from April 2027, removing direct connections to several European destinations. The airline says high airport charges and German aviation taxes have made its operations there too expensive. Around 500,000 seats will disappear from Bremen's annual flight capacity. The airport itself will remain open, with other airlines continuing to operate services.

Which Bremen Flights Are Affected?

  • Airline: Ryanair.
  • Airport: Bremen (BRE), Germany.
  • Withdrawal: From April 2027.
  • Affected flights: All Ryanair services to and from Bremen.
  • Routes affected: Including London Stansted, Alicante and Lamezia Terme.
  • Annual capacity loss: Around 500,000 seats.
  • Bookings: Selected flights remain on sale until March 2027.
  • Summer 2027: No Ryanair flights announced.

The airline cites air traffic control charges, security fees and airport costs alongside Germany's aviation tax. Bremen officials have challenged Ryanair's demands, saying the proposed financial arrangements were unacceptable. The carrier has not published separate final operating dates for individual routes. Ryanair's booking pages currently show flights to London Stansted and Alicante through March, but no fares for the following summer.

The loss of these connections will affect both outbound holidays and visitors flying into Bremen. Travellers may need to use Hamburg or Hanover airports, depending on their destination and available flights. Other airlines will continue serving Bremen, including Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and Eurowings. Anyone considering an alternative airport should also account for the cost and time of reaching Bremen by train.

Passengers whose existing Ryanair flights are cancelled must be offered a refund or suitable rerouting under EU passenger rights rules. Compensation is a separate matter and generally does not apply when an individual receives more than 14 days' notice. Customers should check their booking notifications and consider the alternatives offered before accepting a refund, particularly if replacement flights are substantially more expensive.
