Ryanair Adds New Direct Route to Crete From Bratislava
Ryanair is adding direct flights between Bratislava and Chania for summer 2027, creating a new link between Slovakia and western Crete. The service will bring holidaymakers closer to Chania's historic harbour and beaches such as Falassarna and Elafonisi, rather than arriving farther east on the island. It is particularly useful for people planning to spend most of their holiday around Chania and Crete's north-west coast.
Bratislava–Chania Flight Details
- Airline: Ryanair.
- Route: Bratislava (BTS)–Chania (CHQ), Crete.
- Launch date: 28 March 2027.
- Frequency: Twice weekly, Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Season: Summer 2027 timetable.
Ryanair is already selling tickets for the new route, and travellers can compare them with direct Vienna–Chania flights available for summer 2027. The fare comparison should include baggage: a basic Ryanair ticket covers one small underseat bag measuring 40 × 30 × 20 cm. A larger cabin bag or checked suitcase costs extra, while departing from Vienna also involves getting to a different airport.
Chania Airport is about 15 kilometres from the city, with the journey taking around 20–30 minutes by car. KTEL buses connect the airport with Chania's main bus station, while taxis and car hire are available for those staying farther afield. The old harbour and historic centre are close to town, but Balos Lagoon, Elafonisi and Falassarna require onward travel along the coast.
Chania is a sensible arrival point for western Crete, but someone staying near Heraklion may find a different airport more convenient. The limited Bratislava schedule also leaves fewer options if a holiday needs to start or end on a particular day. Before paying for non-refundable accommodation, it is worth checking that both flights fit the trip and that the chosen airport suits the resort.
