The Schengen Area is witnessing a growing influx of visa applications from Uzbek citizens, as revealed by the European Commission’s latest data on May 15. This trend underscores the increasing desire among Uzbekistan's travelers to explore Europe.

In 2023, consulates across EU and Schengen-associated countries processed over 10.3 million short-stay visa applications, reflecting a substantial 37% rise from the previous year. Despite this growth, the numbers have yet to return to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019, which saw 17 million applications.

From Uzbekistan, a total of 45,622 visa applications were submitted in 2023. Of these, 23.91% were approved, while approximately 5.36% were denied. Interestingly, the refusal rates varied significantly among different consulates. The Czech Republic's consulate in Tashkent had a notably high refusal rate of 30.90%, while France and Slovakia reported lower rates at 14.20% and 8.30% respectively.

Europe remains a top destination for Uzbek travelers, who are drawn to its rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and vibrant cities. However, the varying refusal rates highlight the challenges some applicants face in meeting the visa requirements. Common reasons for visa denials include incomplete documentation, insufficient financial proof, unclear travel purposes, and inadequate travel insurance.

The European travel experience offers Uzbek citizens a chance to immerse themselves in diverse cultures, sample exquisite cuisines, and visit iconic sites. With major cities like Paris, Rome, and Berlin being just a visa approval away, the allure of European adventures continues to grow.

Additionally, recent trends indicate stricter scrutiny on multiple-entry visas, with the proportion of such visas decreasing from 58.1% in 2022 to 54.2% in 2023. This shift suggests that European consulates are exercising more caution, ensuring that visitors meet all necessary criteria.

Europe's diverse landscapes, from the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean to the snowy peaks of the Alps, promise unforgettable journeys for those who successfully navigate the visa process. Whether it's strolling through the streets of Barcelona, savoring the culinary delights of Italy, or exploring the art museums of Amsterdam, the Schengen Area continues to be a dream destination for many.
