Podgorica Set to Gain Direct Flights to 14 Major European Cities

Wizz Air announced that its 36th operational base will be established in Podgorica, Montenegro, in March 2026. Two Airbus A321neo aircraft will be based in Podgorica, allowing the launch of 14 new routes that connect the city directly with major European destinations such as Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Basel-Mulhouse, Hamburg, and Ljubljana. The measure marks an important expansion of Wizz Air’s activities in the region while reflecting Podgorica’s emerging role in Europe’s aviation network.

Establishing the new base is anticipated to support the growth of Podgorica’s aviation industry while also benefiting the surrounding economy. Expected effects include:

  • Expanded air travel capacity in the city.
  • More diverse flight options for travelers.
  • Creation of additional jobs in aviation and supporting services.
  • Increased activity in tourism, commerce, and related sectors.
  • Enhanced accessibility of the region for both leisure and business travel.

Travelers will have improved access to a range of European destinations offering cultural, historical, and leisure experiences. Rome offers sights including the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and St. Peter’s Square, whereas Barcelona features the Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, and Barceloneta Beach. In Paris, visitors can take in the Eiffel Tower, wander through Luxembourg Gardens, and enjoy a walk along the Seine River. These connections are expected to simplify travel planning and increase the convenience of visiting multiple key cities in Western Europe.

The new routes also open northern and central European destinations. Travelers to Gdansk can see the Neptune Fountain, walk the Long Market, and ascend St. Mary’s Church tower to enjoy panoramic views of the city. Cologne presents attractions such as the Cologne Cathedral, the Rhine promenade, and Hohenzollern Bridge with its well-known love locks. In Malmö, travelers can take in the Turning Torso skyscraper, wander through Kungsparken, and explore the Möllevången district, which offers a variety of cultural, architectural, and urban experiences.

Wizz Air’s new Podgorica base demonstrates Montenegro’s expanding influence in regional air networks and provides additional travel options for passengers throughout Europe. With the new connections, traveling to multiple destinations becomes simpler, supporting people traveling for work as well as for leisure. The project is designed to enhance Podgorica’s status as a central European hub, giving travelers increased flexibility, more efficient itinerary planning, and opportunities to reach a diverse mix of major and lesser-known destinations.
