Oulu Adds Direct Riga Flights to its Route Map
Air Baltic has introduced a new direct connection between Oulu and Riga, adding regular flights linking Northern Finland with the Baltic region. The service began on 30 March 2026 and operates five times a week using Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The route strengthens international accessibility for Oulu at a time when the city is attracting attention as the European Capital of Culture in 2026.
Flights operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the end of October 2026. The schedule has been arranged to allow convenient onward connections through Riga Airport to a wide range of European destinations. Early morning departures from Oulu provide options for same-day travel further across the continent, supporting both leisure trips and business journeys requiring efficient connections.
Route Details

- Flights scheduled until late October 2026
- Operated by Airbus A220-300 aircraft
- Connections available via Riga to other European cities
The new route also highlights Air Baltic’s continued activity across Finland, where the airline already serves Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, with additional winter routes planned from Kuusamo. Expanding links across the Baltic region improves travel options for residents of Northern Finland while also encouraging more visitors to discover Oulu during a year of cultural events and exhibitions.
Oulu holds the title of European Capital of Culture in 2026, which is expected to bring more visitors to the region. Better flight access can make it easier to reach northern coastal areas, nearby national parks and venues hosting exhibitions, performances and public events during the year. The route also helps combine time in Riga with visits to northern Finland, known for seasonal scenery and less crowded destinations.
Flights operating several times a week give more choice when planning trips across Northern Europe together with other cities accessible via Riga. A five-times-weekly schedule offers flexible travel dates, while connections through the Latvian capital can reduce journey time compared with routes that require more changes. This makes it easier to plan trips that include cultural events in different European countries.
