Nuremberg Bags Get a Faster Antalya Check-In
Freebird Airlines has introduced Self Baggage Drop Off at Nuremberg Airport for passengers flying to Antalya. The carrier is the first leisure airline at Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg to use the automated baggage service. The option is available immediately for travellers who have already checked in online and want to hand over hold luggage without waiting for a traditional counter.
The service supports Freebird’s Summer 2026 flights between Nuremberg and Antalya, which operate several days a week to the Turkish Riviera. The airport says the system should be especially useful during busy holiday periods, when families and leisure passengers often face longer queues. It also reduces dependence on standard check-in counter opening times, giving online check-in passengers a more flexible process.
How Bag Drop Works
The Self Baggage Drop Off counters are located in Departure Hall 2, on the way towards security. Passengers follow multilingual screen instructions:
- Scan a boarding pass
- Print and attach the bag tag
- Weigh the luggage
- Place it on the conveyor belt
- Complete final tag and weight checks
The system then sends the bag into sorting for loading.
The change should make Antalya holidays easier to start for passengers leaving Nuremberg, especially at peak leisure times. Antalya remains a major gateway to the Turkish Riviera, with access to beach resorts, old-town hotels, boat trips and nearby sites such as Side and Perge. Faster baggage handling can give passengers more time before security or a calmer start with children and large suitcases.
This is a small airport update, but it has a clear passenger benefit. Self-service bag drop will not remove every queue, yet it can cut one common friction point before departure. Nuremberg Airport has used the system since 2022, with more airlines gradually joining, so Freebird’s move shows leisure carriers are also shifting towards quicker, more automated ground handling.
