Nobu is planning a new resort in Portugal’s eastern Algarve, combining a hotel, restaurant, villas and branded residences at Monte Rei. The project will become the company’s second Portuguese destination, after its planned Lisbon property on Avenida da Liberdade. Set within the existing golf resort, the development extends Nobu’s European hotel network beyond city locations and established coastal properties such as Marbella and Ibiza.

What Is Planned at Monte Rei

  • Location: Monte Rei, eastern Algarve, Portugal
  • Brand: Nobu Hospitality
  • Construction: Expected to begin in 2027
  • Opening: First guests expected in 2029
  • Hotel: 100 rooms and suites
  • Other additions: Nobu restaurant, villas and branded residences
  • Site: More than 1,000 acres around a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course

The hotel will have 100 rooms and suites, alongside a signature Nobu restaurant and 21,000 square metres of villas and branded residences. Norfin is developing the scheme, with Rockwell Group and DSA Architects responsible for its design. Monte Rei covers more than 1,000 acres of countryside and is centred on a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, giving the new property an established resort setting rather than a standalone site.

The resort will add another base for exploring the eastern Algarve. Nearby options include Tavira’s historic centre, the hilltop village of Cacela Velha and boat trips to the beaches and islands of the Ria Formosa. Vila Real de Santo António and the Spanish border are also within the wider area, while golfers will be able to stay beside Monte Rei’s existing course.

The opening is still several seasons away, so there are no rooms to book yet. Its significance lies in Nobu’s choice of a countryside resort in the eastern Algarve rather than another major city. Once complete, it should suit visitors who want golf, coastal day trips and a longer stay in one place, while Lisbon remains the brand’s separate urban project in Portugal.
