New Summer Flights from Edmonton Open Door to BC’s Nature and Northern Cities

Beginning in July 2025, WestJet will launch direct flights from Edmonton International Airport YEG to two cities in British Columbia: Kamloops and Prince George. Each route will operate twice a week during the summer travel season using De Havilland Dash 8 400 Q400 aircraft. Kamloops marks a return to the airline’s network while Prince George will be served non-stop from Edmonton for the first time.

In addition to these new connections, WestJet is boosting capacity on existing routes to Nanaimo and Yellowknife. Flights to Nanaimo will be served by larger Boeing 737 aircraft increasing the number of available seats. Service to Yellowknife will run four times weekly using a mix of Q400 and 737 planes. These upgrades aim to improve access to regional destinations during the busy summer months when demand for domestic travel is at its highest.

With a new direct route to Kamloops travelers gain easy access to British Columbia’s Thompson Okanagan region known for its hiking trails, desert landscapes and nearby lakes. The area is popular among nature lovers offering activities such as mountain biking, paddling and vineyard tours. Kamloops acts as the main access point to Sun Peaks Resort, a destination open throughout the year that provides outdoor activities for visitors in both summer and winter.

Prince George, now accessible through the second new route, is Northern British Columbia’s largest city and a key point for wilderness exploration. From there travelers can reach remote parks like Ancient Forest or embark on wildlife viewing excursions in the region’s vast natural areas. At The Exploration Place in Prince George, travelers can explore displays that bring together local culture, science, and stories from the region’s past.

For those flying from or through Edmonton the new and expanded routes offer quicker access to some of the country’s most scenic and lesser visited regions.
