Latvia’s leading carrier, airBaltic, has unveiled its intention to broaden its flight network for the 2026 summer season. The carrier will add new and previously operated European routes. This step will support regional air links while other airlines reduce their schedules. The updated schedule focuses on improving direct air links from Riga and other Baltic cities to major destinations throughout Northern, Southern, and Eastern Europe.

Based on the airline’s plans, the 2026 summer schedule will include several significant changes:

  • New routes: Riga to Kaunas (Lithuania), Oulu (Finland), and Antalya (Turkey) – the latter changing from a charter to a scheduled service.
  • Resumed routes: airBaltic will restart flights from Riga to Aberdeen , Belgrade (Serbia) , and Yerevan .
  • More frequent services: extra flights to destinations such as Malaga (Spain), Nice (France), and Palma de Mallorca (Spain).

These changes aim to maintain consistent regional links and accommodate rising demand.

The new routes open access to several culturally and naturally rich destinations across Europe. Antalya offers a combination of sunny Mediterranean beaches, ancient ruins such as Aspendos and Perge, and lively local markets where you can buy regional foods and handicrafts. Oulu, in northern Finland, offers a more tranquil contrast, known for its tech scene and proximity to Lapland, it serves as a gateway for those interested in hiking, nature trails, and viewing the northern lights during the colder months.

Other additions provide opportunities for short cultural escapes. Kaunas showcases interwar architecture, bright street murals, and a thriving café scene along the Nemunas River. The city gives visitors a genuine insight into everyday local life. Belgrade blends Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and modern influences with its fortress, lively waterfront, and music festivals. Meanwhile, Yerevan, one of the oldest cities in the world, offers travelers views of Mount Ararat, architecture, and rich Armenian cuisine. Each of these destinations adds a special travel experience that is now accessible from Riga.

The airline's expansion in the summer of 2026 reflects adaptation to changes in travel patterns rather than rapid growth. For passengers, this means a more diverse route map and less dependence on transit hubs in other parts of Europe. Through the launch of new regional routes and the reinstatement of past destinations, airBaltic continues to support regional air connectivity. This helps maintain balanced access across Northern, Central, and Southeastern Europe for the coming travel season.
