Marriott International has confirmed plans to introduce the St. Regis brand to Costa Rica, with a resort set to open in early 2027. Located on the Papagayo Peninsula in the Guanacaste province, the development will cover 20 hectares and feature 120 hotel rooms along with 143 branded residences. Construction is expected to begin in July 2025 in partnership with Solana PA, S.R.L., a local development firm. The design, by Sordo Madaleno and Gensler, will emphasize harmony with the local landscape and environment.

The Papagayo Peninsula, prized for its natural beauty and wildlife, is gaining recognition as a growing luxury travel destination. Situated a short drive from Liberia International Airport, the resort offers quick and easy access for visitors flying in. Plans for the resort include restaurants, a full-service spa, multiple pools, a beach club, and areas designed for events. Set in a strategic location, the resort offers easy access to some of Costa Rica’s standout natural and historic sites.

The resort’s location gives travelers easy access to several notable natural and historical sites. About an hour’s drive from the resort, Rincón de la Vieja National Park invites visitors to discover volcanic scenery, wander through tropical forests, enjoy hot springs, and observe wildlife. Another key destination is Santa Rosa National Park, located to the north of the peninsula. Containing one of the world’s final dry tropical forests, the park is also remembered for the 1856 Battle of Santa Rosa, an important chapter in Costa Rica’s path to independence.

Just a short distance from the resort, Playa Nacascolo provides a tranquil beach setting with calm waters perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or unwinding by the ocean. Nearby, Marina Papagayo serves as a launch point for a range of marine activities, including yacht charters, deep-sea fishing excursions, and scuba diving in the rich Pacific coastal waters. These nearby attractions allow guests to enjoy both leisure and adventure without venturing far from the resort.

The new resort reflects growing efforts in Costa Rica to combine high-end tourism with ecological responsibility. As the region continues to develop, it offers travelers a mix of cultural exploration, nature-based activities, and high-end amenities. Costa Rica continues to grow as a destination that balances a variety of travel experiences with a strong commitment to preserving its environment.
