In December 2025, NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) is set to launch a new direct night train service from Amsterdam to Vienna. This service, in collaboration with Austrian railway company ÖBB, aims to enhance connectivity between the two cities, providing a convenient and comfortable travel option for passengers.

The new night train, departing on December 14, 2025, will traverse several key locations including Amersfoort, Deventer, Bad Bentheim, and various German and Austrian towns before reaching Vienna. The journey is expected to take approximately 14 hours and 9 minutes. This development comes as NS and ÖBB plan to split the current Nightjet route, which runs from Amsterdam via Innsbruck to Vienna, into two separate lines.

The updated service will feature the new generation Nightjet trains, known as DANI in Austria. These trains will have a total of 416 seats, comprising sleeping cars, minicabs, lounge compartments, and standard seats. Specifically, the train will offer a sleeping car with 40 beds, minicabs with 78 beds, lounge compartments with 40 beds, and 96 regular seats. Additionally, there will be a sleeping car with 36 beds and two couchette cars providing 30 beds. Extra seating will be available in 11 compartments, accommodating 66 passengers.

According to the timetable submitted to ACM, the train will leave Amsterdam at 7:08 p.m., arriving in Bad Bentheim at 9:04 p.m., and reaching Vienna at 9:17 a.m. the next day. The return journey will commence in Vienna at 8:10 p.m., stopping in Bad Bentheim at 7:34 a.m., and concluding in Amsterdam at 9:49 a.m.

The reintroduction of the night train from the Netherlands to Austria in 2021 was highly successful, attracting around 100,000 travelers in its first year. The service remains popular, often fully booked. The new route via Deventer is expected to further boost its popularity, offering a valuable alternative for night travel between Amsterdam and Vienna.
