New Hotel Opens on Shura Island, Unlocking Red Sea Access
EDITION Hotels has opened its second property in Saudi Arabia, The Red Sea EDITION, located on Shura Island along the western coastline. The resort occupies a kilometre-long private beachfront and is situated next to Shura Links, Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course designed by Brian Curley. The project forms part of Vision 2030, the country’s strategy to expand sustainable tourism, increase international travel, and develop the Red Sea region as a high-quality travel destination.
The development, carried out with Marriott International and Red Sea Global (RSG), emphasizes ecological compatibility with its location. Among the key aspects of the resort are:
- Fully solar-powered operations
- Seamless integration with the natural surroundings
- Location within an archipelago of 90 largely untouched islands
- Access to coral reefs, crystalline lagoons, and diverse marine life
These components enable visitors to enjoy the Red Sea’s ecosystems while maintaining a focus on accessibility and environmental care.
Travelers to Shura Island have several nearby natural attractions worth exploring. The Coral Garden Reefs are ideal for snorkeling and observing marine biodiversity in clear waters. The Crystal Lagoon offers tranquil waters for kayaking and paddleboarding, making it suitable for families as well as beginners. Additionally, the Shura Mangrove Boardwalk allows visitors to stroll among native mangroves and observe coastal wildlife, offering a combination of educational opportunities and outdoor activity.
Additional outdoor opportunities include the offshore White Sand Coves, where visitors can swim or sunbathe in privacy, and the Desert Dunes Trail, which offers guided hikes through wind-shaped landscapes perfect for photography and exploration. The Shura Island Marina acts as a starting point for sailing and short boat excursions along the coast, providing access to nearby islands and hidden beaches. Together, these sites offer a varied range of activities that are readily accessible from the resort.
The opening of The Red Sea EDITION represents a significant development for travelers seeking both leisure and adventure in Saudi Arabia. It provides infrastructure and accommodation that enable longer stays while maintaining proximity to natural attractions. The new development makes it simpler for travelers to explore the sea and desert landscapes while enjoying outdoor activities and observing local wildlife. This launch underscores growing access to key sites along the Red Sea, supporting both travel and ecological awareness.
