Rising demand from Italy continues to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as both a travel destination and a connecting hub. Travelers from Italy keep showing consistent interest for both holidays and work trips, which is helping strengthen overall ties between Italy and the UAE. The added flights not only respond to current demand but are also expected to reduce congestion during busy travel periods and provide passengers with more departure choices from Rome and Milan.

Etihad’s decision to operate the Airbus A321LR on the Milan route reflects an adjustment to medium-haul travel needs. The plane helps use fuel and space wisely while still giving the airline options to adjust how the seats are arranged. Its size and fuel performance make it suitable for high-frequency routes, enabling the airline to meet varying demand levels without deploying larger long-range aircraft unnecessarily.

The consistent growth we're seeing from the Italian market highlights Abu Dhabi's appeal as both a destination and global hub. Italian travellers are responding well to our offering, with steady demand across both leisure and business segments. This connectivity is strengthening tourism and supporting deeper ties across trade, culture and investment.

Travelers arriving in Abu Dhabi through the expanded network will have the opportunity to explore several cultural and historical landmarks. People can check out Qasr Al Hosn which is the oldest stone building still standing in the city, the Louvre Abu Dhabi where artwork from different countries is displayed and Saadiyat Cultural District which is slowly turning into a major spot for culture and events. There are also sandy spots to relax, green areas for walking, and a bunch of new buildings with creative designs which can be good to see if you're only in town for a bit.

Milan and Rome, the departure points for the new flights, are also destinations of interest for visitors. Milan, there’s a giant stone cathedral with delicate details, a well-known mural by da Vinci that many come to see, and areas where fashion and design shape daily life. Rome is home to old landmarks like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon. These two cities aren’t just places to change planes, they're where many people begin their deeper look into Italy’s history and everyday culture.

The schedule enhancement is supported by Etihad’s existing cooperation with Trenitalia and ITA Airways. This partnership links air and rail services, allowing passengers from cities without international airports to reach Rome or Milan more easily. Travelers from places like Florence, Bologna, or Naples can use high-speed trains to connect with long-haul flights without needing separate bookings. For passengers, this setup can mean fewer overnight stays, shorter transfers, and a more coordinated travel experience across Italy's major transport systems.
