Rail services linking Rome Fiumicino Airport with the city may be affected by a nationwide strike involving FS Group staff. Trenitalia has confirmed that industrial action is planned from 21:00 on Friday, 9 January, until 21:00 on Saturday, 10 January. During that period, delays and cancellations are possible on services operated by Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord, including airport connections.

The strike involves several operators within the FS Group and applies to national routes, so delays are not limited to Rome. The notice draws attention to services connecting Fiumicino Airport with the city, as these trains are commonly used by people moving between flights and central districts. Passengers are advised to check schedules before travelling and be prepared for timetable changes or suspended services.

At present, no full list of cancelled or guaranteed services has been published. Italian rail strikes sometimes include "guaranteed time slots" during peak hours, although this varies by operator and strike category. Trenitalia has urged passengers to monitor updates through official channels during the 24-hour industrial action period, noting that connections depend on staffing levels and operational conditions on the day.

Fiumicino Airport is one of Europe’s busiest gateways, handling flights across Italy, Europe and long-haul markets. Rail disruption may affect common travel patterns such as Rome city breaks, transfers to high-speed services at Roma Termini, and flight connections onto coastal destinations in Lazio. In normal conditions, the rail link offers access to Rome’s historic centre, major museums, Vatican City, archaeological sites and cruise departures via Civitavecchia.

Rail strikes are a recurring feature of Italian transport life, often causing temporary disruption without long-term changes to infrastructure. This strike is no exception: the main concern is timing, which collides with airport traffic and national movements. Those with fixed plans on 9–10 January may need extra time or alternative transport. Checking updates before setting out can reduce stress and help keep trips on schedule during the affected period.
