Meliá Hotels International has reopened Meliá Barajas in Madrid after a €10 million renovation, presenting a concept that combines business trips with time to relax. The hotel includes renovated rooms, shared spaces, restaurants and meeting rooms. The renovation was completed in cooperation with Petra AM, a hotel real estate investor that acquired the property in September 2023 and took part in the upgrade of the building.

One of the main changes is the outdoor area, where gardens now surround a large pool, the Gaia Pool Bar and a 3,000 m² green zone. This part of the hotel creates a more peaceful setting compared with the surrounding city. Inside, rooms and shared spaces were redesigned in a modern style focused on comfort, with ten room types arranged to suit both short stays and longer visits.

Facilities redesigned after renovation

  • Outdoor pool and landscaped gardens
  • Gaia Pool Bar and terrace dining spaces
  • 12 meeting rooms including a 450 m² hall
  • Mosaico restaurant for breakfast and events
  • Trasluz restaurant with Mediterranean menu
  • The Level premium rooms with private lounge

The hotel is located close to Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, IFEMA exhibition centre and Metropolitano Stadium, with transport links connecting the area to central Madrid. The location supports trips that combine meetings, exhibitions or sporting events with time spent exploring the Spanish capital, including museums, parks and historic neighbourhoods accessible by public transport.

The reopening adds another option for people planning short stays in Madrid, particularly where flights arrive late or depart early. Accommodation near the airport may help reduce travel time across the city while keeping access to cultural sites such as the Prado Museum, Retiro Park and Gran Vía. The combination of meeting rooms and leisure facilities responds to growing interest in trips where work commitments are planned alongside time to relax.

Recent developments show how hotels near major transport hubs are adjusting to different travel patterns. Refurbished properties place greater attention on comfort for shorter stays, while still providing spaces suitable for meetings or events. Changes in interior design, dining areas and outdoor spaces reflect interest in accommodation that combines practical travel requirements with the possibility to rest between flights, appointments or planned activities.
