Loganair Offers Free Flight Changes Ahead of Storm Austen
Loganair is offering free flight changes to passengers travelling through five airports on Friday, 23 October, as Storm Austen threatens strong winds and delays. Bristol, Cornwall Airport Newquay, Exeter, Jersey and Southampton are covered by the airline’s weather waiver. Loganair still intends to operate all scheduled services and has standby aircraft and crews ready, but passengers can move their booking before disruption develops.
How to Change Your Loganair Flight for Free
- Affected flights: Loganair services via Bristol (BRS), Newquay (NQY), Exeter (EXT), Jersey (JER) and Southampton (SOU) on 23 October.
- Rebooking: Passengers can move their flight within 14 days of the original travel date, subject to seat availability.
- Fees: Loganair won't charge passengers for changing their flight or for any difference in fare.
- Already checked in: Passengers must undo their check-in before rebooking.
- Booking changes: Use Manage My Booking or call 0344 800 2855 (weekdays, 07:00–18:00).
- Original flights: Passengers keeping their bookings should check the live flight status before travelling.
Loganair's waiver applies only to its own services: the airline cannot rearrange connecting flights booked with another carrier. A running service does not qualify for a weather-related refund solely because a passenger prefers not to travel. If the flight is cancelled, UK passenger-rights rules provide refund or rerouting options. A delay lasting at least five hours also permits eligible passengers to abandon their journey and request reimbursement.
The Met Office issued an amber wind warning on 21 October for Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and parts of west Devon. Forecasters warn of gusts around 60–70mph, with stronger winds possible on exposed headlands, while a wider yellow warning covers southern areas. Jersey is included in Loganair’s waiver but outside the Met Office’s UK warning area. Road and airport access may also be disrupted.
Passengers who can travel another day should request a suitable replacement early, before the limited seats go. Those keeping Friday’s flight should check its status and the latest weather warning before setting off, rather than assuming cancellation. If stranded, ask Loganair to arrange meals or accommodation where UK rules require it, and retain itemised receipts for reasonable costs. Severe weather may rule out fixed compensation, not assistance.
