ITA Airways will join the Europe–Japan joint venture between All Nippon Airways and Lufthansa Group from autumn 2026. The agreement brings the Italian airline into the existing partnership with ANA, Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. It was signed during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

Rome and Milan flights in the joint venture

The expanded Japan–Europe joint venture will add ITA’s Rome route alongside ANA’s existing Milan service:

  • ITA Airways AZ792: Rome Fiumicino 14:55 – Tokyo Haneda 10:25 next day, daily, Airbus A350-900
  • ITA Airways AZ793: Tokyo Haneda 12:40 – Rome Fiumicino 14:55, daily, Airbus A350-900
  • ANA NH207: Tokyo Haneda 22:45 – Milan Malpensa 07:10 next day, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, Boeing 787-9
  • ANA NH208: Milan Malpensa 11:20 – Tokyo Haneda 07:15 next day, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, Boeing 787-9

The new joint offer will be introduced in stages from autumn 2026.

Rome Fiumicino is the key addition. ITA already operates a daily nonstop service between Rome and Tokyo Haneda, while ANA serves Tokyo Haneda–Milan Malpensa. With ITA joining the partnership, the Rome route will become part of a wider booking and connection system for passengers using the participating airlines.

The change should be useful for trips that do not end in Rome or Tokyo. Passengers travelling between Japan and Southern Europe may get better access to Italian cities, Mediterranean destinations and North Africa through ITA’s Rome hub. After arriving at Tokyo Haneda, ITA passengers will also be able to use ANA’s domestic network for onward travel in Japan.

The change will matter most once the new booking options go live. From autumn 2026, ITA’s Rome–Tokyo flight should gradually become easier to combine with Lufthansa Group and ANA services. Until then, travellers using Rome as a stop should check whether the fare, lounge access and loyalty benefits are included on their chosen ticket.
