InterContinental Introduces Regional Cuisine and Cultural Initiatives
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has begun offering cultural and culinary activities in Greater China that center on regional heritage. Under the theme "Blossom the Incredible," the initiative brings together regional cuisine, storytelling, and sensory activities to highlight the character of each city. At the launch event in InterContinental Xi’an Hi-Tech Zone, Li Ai guided attendees through a program highlighting regional culinary heritage.
The program involved ten chefs and mixologists from multiple cities who developed a multi-course menu showcasing regional dishes. The menu included:
- Xi’an: Smoked and Charcoal Grilled Lamb Tenderloin
- Suzhou: River Seafood with Lipu Taro
- Chengdu: New-style Bak Kut Teh
- Shenzhen: Lingding Yong Crab Soup in Winter Melon
- Sanya: Stuffed Squid with Starfruit Sorbet
- Changsha: Soft Shell Turtle Duo
- Guangzhou: Kui Fa Chicken
- Hong Kong: Beggar Goose with Abalone & Matsutake Agnolotti
- Chongqing: Sichuan Pepper Infused Chocolate Cake
The events are designed to give visitors insight into regional food traditions and their cultural background. Guests can explore ingredients, techniques, and flavors from multiple cities in a single setting, allowing them to gain a better understanding of local food culture. This approach helps travelers plan future trips with more knowledge of regional specialties and enhances the overall travel experience by combining meals with cultural insight.
The program introduces changes to breakfast options and Club InterContinental services, with a focus on regional dishes and traditional preparations. Guests can now choose from specialty teas, noodle dishes, light meals, desserts, traditional soups, and claypot congee served throughout the day. These changes allow travelers to integrate cultural and culinary exploration into everyday dining during their stay, offering repeated opportunities to experience local flavors and practices.
This initiative highlights the growing significance of culinary and cultural experiences in travel. By presenting structured opportunities to explore regional traditions through food and storytelling, the program provides visitors with more informed and meaningful engagement with each destination. For visitors, they create opportunities to explore culinary variety, engage with cultural heritage, and broaden travel experiences throughout Greater China.
