Helsinki Gains New Direct Link to Tirana for Summer Travel
Norwegian is shaking up its summer 2026 timetable, adding a direct flight from Helsinki to Tirana. Next year, the airline intends to run twenty-three direct routes, and this new addition signals ongoing tweaks to broaden travel possibilities in Southern Europe. The move comes in response to consistent demand for more point-to-point services, sidestepping the need to connect through major hubs. The goal is to offer travelers simpler options throughout the summer months.
Norwegian will also extend the operational periods of several routes introduced last year and adjust frequencies on others. The airline confirmed longer seasons or additional flights for the following destinations:
- Malta
- Bucharest
- Alicante
- Burgas
These updates indicate sustained interest in coastal regions among Finnish travellers and follow a broader trend of airlines refining seasonal schedules to align with changing demand throughout spring, summer and autumn travel periods.
The new Helsinki–Tirana route allows passengers to reach Albania’s Adriatic region without relying on transfers in major European cities. Located just a stone's throw from the capital, Durres is a popular seaside resort that boasts a combination of sunny beaches, convenient transport links, and a wealth of historical attractions. The introduction of direct flights simplifies travel for those who previously had to change airports, significantly reducing travel time. This makes short trips or slightly longer stays much more feasible.
The route also provides an additional entry point to southern Albania, where the Albanian Riviera has gained visibility as tourism develops. These places, among them Ksamil, Himarë and Sarandë, stretch along the coast and give access to beaches, natural spots and a range of visitor services that have expanded over time. Inland, travellers can reach historical fortresses, traditional hillside villages and protected landscapes, allowing them to combine coastal relaxation with broader exploration of Albania’s cultural and environmental diversity.
