An American Airlines Airbus A321 experienced significant damage to its underbelly and nose landing gear during an incident involving a ground service vehicle at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The event, which took place on April 21, 2024, has left the aircraft grounded since.

The damaged Airbus A321ceo, registered as N136AN, was reportedly involved in a mishap with a tug during pushback operations. Images circulating on social media platforms show extensive damage to the fuselage's underside and the nose landing gear. According to Flightradar24, the aircraft last completed a flight from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to CLT on the day of the incident.

This incident is part of a series of tug and pushback-related accidents that have plagued American Airlines over recent years. Notably, in August 2022, a similar event at New York's LaGuardia Airport involved a Boeing 737-800 that collided with a tug, highlighting ongoing challenges with ground operations.

American Airlines is currently undergoing a renewal of its short-haul fleet.
