Glasgow Gets a Direct Route to Spain’s Food Capital

Scottish holidaymakers can now fly directly between Glasgow and San Sebastián following the launch of a seasonal BA Cityflyer service. The new connection removes the need for an onward flight or overland transfer through another Spanish airport. It brings the Basque coast into Glasgow Airport’s summer network and gives travellers a direct alternative to the better-established beach routes serving southern and eastern Spain.

The launch expands BA Cityflyer’s leisure programme at Glasgow after the airline introduced flights to Palma in May. San Sebastián adds a northern Spanish destination to that summer offering, but the short operating window makes it a late-season option rather than a year-round city link. The Tuesday and Saturday departures allow several trip lengths, including short breaks and full-week stays, within the published timetable.

San Sebastián’s La Concha beach and atmospheric Old Town are now reachable on one flight from Glasgow. Visitors can take the century-old funicular to Mount Igueldo, walk around La Concha Bay or visit Zurriola beach, which is known for surfing. Food is also a central part of the city’s appeal, with traditional pintxo bars and one of the world’s highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants per person.

With only two departures each week and a season lasting less than two months, the service rewards careful date planning. Missing a booked flight could mean waiting several days or arranging an indirect journey, so accommodation and return travel should be confirmed together. Within those limits, the route makes a part of northern Spain that was awkward to reach considerably more suitable for a short Scottish summer break.
