From Rome to Alba: New Luxury Train Trips Across Italy in 2027
La Dolce Vita Orient Express is expanding its Italian rail journeys for 2027, introducing trips through historic cities, coastal towns and famous wine regions. The programme includes journeys to Portofino, Venice, Florence and Alba, as well as shorter trips through Tuscany. Travellers can already make reservations, with options ranging from overnight journeys to longer round trips. However, not every destination is reached directly by train.
New Italy Train Journeys for 2027
- Rome–Portofino–Venice–Florence–Rome: 3 days, 2 nights; round trip.
- Italian Wine Route: Rome–Tuscany–Verona–Rome; 3 days, 2 nights.
- Truffle Route: Rome–Alba–Rome; 3 days, 2 nights.
- Rome–Bolgheri–Venice: 2 days, 1 night; one way.
- Operator: La Dolce Vita Orient Express.
- Bookings: Available now; fares depend on the itinerary, departure and cabin.
Journeys depart from Rome, with Roma Ostiense serving as the starting point for the listed routes. Accommodation and onboard dining form part of the experience, while certain excursions cost extra. For selected 2027 departures booked by 18 October 2026, the operator is offering one complimentary experience. Exact dates, cabin availability and included activities can be checked on the official website.
The itineraries cover several different parts of Italy. Portofino is reached by transfer from Santa Margherita Ligure, while Venice and Florence offer time to explore their historic centres. The Truffle Route visits Alba, near the Barolo and Barbaresco wine regions. The Tuscan journeys include vineyard country around Bolgheri or Montalcino, although the operator's published Wine Route descriptions currently differ on the exact stop.
Unlike regular train services, these journeys include overnight stays and dining aboard, making them more suitable for a special holiday than basic transport between cities. Travellers should compare the time spent at each destination, particularly when excursions involve road transfers. A one-way ticket ending in Venice also requires separate arrangements for the return journey. Cabin rates vary, so check the total price and what happens if you need to cancel.
