Finnair has compiled a list of five unusual places to stay across Finland, offering alternatives to a standard hotel room. The selection ranges from glass igloos in Lapland and tree tents suspended above the ground to rural farm stays, minimalist Nolla Cabins and historic manor hotels. The options cover different parts of the country and work across different seasons, depending on the type of accommodation.

Five Places to Stay Differently in Finland

  • Glass igloos: Available in Levi and Rovaniemi in Lapland, with floating igloos also found near Helsinki and Sipoo. Some operate year-round, while others open mainly from autumn to spring.
  • Tree tents: Tree Tent in Sastamala offers tents suspended 1.8 metres above the ground. They are best suited to summer stays, and guests need to bring their own food.
  • Farm stays: Farms in Ypäjä, Kokemäki and Töysä offer cottages or rooms, often alongside saunas, swimming, hiking, fishing or other countryside activities.
  • Nolla Cabins: These small self-service cabins are available at several locations during summer. Most sleep two adults, with extra space available for two children.
  • Manor hotels: Properties in Mikkeli, Porvoo and Hirvihaara stay open throughout the year, with restaurants, spas, saunas and other hotel facilities depending on the property.

Glass igloos focus on wide views of forests and skies, with some properties adding saunas, restaurants or year-round availability. Tentsiles take the opposite approach, suspending guests between trees for a simple summer stay. Farm accommodation centres on rural life, local food and saunas, while Nolla Cabins keep facilities deliberately minimal. Manor hotels provide the most traditional option, combining historic buildings with restaurants, spas and organised activities.

The spread of locations also gives visitors more reasons to explore beyond Finland’s usual city breaks. Floating igloos place guests near Helsinki’s Vallisaari and Kuninkaansaari islands, while Lapland stays connect easily with Levi and Rovaniemi. Rural properties open up places such as Ypäjä, Kokemäki and Töysä, and manor stays can be combined with visits to Porvoo, Mikkeli and the surrounding Finnish countryside.

The choice largely depends on when you visit and how much comfort you want. Tree tents, farm stays and Nolla Cabins suit warmer months, while Lapland’s glass igloos are particularly appealing during the darker seasons. Manor hotels are the easiest year-round option. Before booking, it is worth checking what is included, as facilities range from basic self-service cabins to properties with restaurants, spas and organised activities.
