FAA Investigates Mesa Airlines Flight After Mid-Flight Power and Steering Issues

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched two investigations into a Mesa Airlines flight that experienced electrical and steering issues while traveling from Austin to Houston. Mesa Airlines Flight 6078, operated on behalf of United Airlines, landed safely at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on October 9, after the crew reported potential electrical and navigational malfunctions mid-flight.

Passenger Karen Rambin recounted the unsettling experience, noting that although the flight was smooth for the most part, the sight of airside operations upon landing signaled that something was wrong. The plane, an Embraer ERJ-175, required towing back to the terminal due to steering issues and power loss during the flight.

This isn’t the first time the aircraft has encountered similar problems. On July 31, 2024, the same Embraer ERJ-175 reported identical electrical and navigational issues while en route from Houston to Jacksonville, Florida. Both incidents are now under FAA investigation.

Aviation experts have described such issues as highly unusual given modern manufacturing standards. The aircraft is currently out of service pending a thorough inspection by Mesa Airlines' maintenance team. Passengers, including Rambin, have expressed concerns about the plane's safety, calling for more rigorous inspections before it is allowed to fly again.
