Starting 4 May 2026, Etihad Airways will begin direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Charlotte, North Carolina. Operating four times a week with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the new route marks Etihad’s sixth destination in the U.S. and the first direct link from the Gulf region to this fast-growing southern American city. The flight will help expand air connectivity between the Middle East and the U.S. Southeast.

Charlotte is drawing more visitors thanks to its combination of cultural sites, entertainment options, and outdoor experiences. The city’s expanding infrastructure makes it more accessible, while Charlotte Douglas International Airport ranks among the busiest worldwide, supporting growing visitor numbers. This new direct flight route provides easier access to a region of the U.S. Until recently, the Southeast had limited international air links, but new routes are now making the area more reachable for travelers.

People arriving in Charlotte will find it simple to explore the city’s main points of interest. These include the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a must-visit for motorsport fans, and Discovery Place Science, an interactive science and technology museum suitable for families. Art and history enthusiasts can explore the Mint Museum Uptown and the Levine Museum of the New South, both of which offer insights into American and southern heritage. Charlotte is gaining recognition for its vibrant food and craft beer scenes, especially in the NoDa and South End districts.

Areas around Charlotte provide more spots for those interested in nature and history. Within a short drive west, visitors can reach the Blue Ridge Parkway, popular for its stunning views, hiking trails, and waterfalls. To the north lies Lake Norman, a popular spot for boating and waterfront recreation. About a few hours southeast of Charlotte, visitors can reach Charleston, South Carolina, famous for its well-preserved colonial buildings and coastal atmosphere. For those heading north, Asheville is home to the historic Biltmore Estate, the largest privately owned house in the U.S.

Travelers using this service can skip crowded hubs and reach regional spots in the Carolinas more directly. It reduces overall travel time, simplifies connections, and opens new options for those interested in exploring both urban centers and natural landscapes in the southeastern United States. The development reflects growing demand for greater global connectivity beyond the usual U.S. gateways.
