Early on Friday 15 August 2025 travel plans at Manchester Airport were thrown off schedule when two easyJet planes lightly touched wingtips while moving along the taxiway to the runway. One plane was scheduled for Gibraltar and the other for Paris Charles de Gaulle, and after their wingtips touched all take-offs were paused so crews could carry out safety inspections. No injuries were reported, but the situation caused significant delays during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

After the collision both planes returned to their stands so passengers could disembark. Travellers received refreshment vouchers while the airline arranged replacement aircraft. Flight data indicated average delays of around 48 minutes following the event. Although operations resumed later that morning the knock-on effect continued to impact schedules throughout the day, affecting both easyJet flights and other departures from the airport.

We apologise to customers for the delay to their flights. The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority.

This incident for travellers is a clear example that unexpected setbacks can happen before the plane even takes off. Passengers needing connecting flights could end up missing them, while many others had to spend long hours waiting in the terminal. In the busy peak season, even short pauses in airport operations can set off a ripple of delays on different routes, forcing hundreds of travellers to change or even cancel their plans.

During the busiest travel times, there are simple ways passengers can soften the impact of sudden delays by taking a few sensible steps. Experts advise taking the following steps to minimise disruption:

  • Check your flight status often using official airline or airport updates
  • Complete online check-in in advance to save time at the terminal
  • Arrive at the airport earlier than usual
  • Keep alternative departure times in mind
  • Be ready to adjust bookings if needed
  • Keep your travel documents and booking details within easy reach so staff can help you faster if delays happen

The event is a strong reminder that during the high season even carefully arranged travel plans can quickly fall apart. A small problem on the ground can quickly spread into major delays for many flights. For travellers, being flexible, ready for sudden changes, and keeping in touch with their airline can make dealing with disruptions much easier. Being prepared for unexpected events can turn a frustrating delay into a manageable inconvenience, ensuring that the journey continues as smoothly as possible once operations resume.
