Delta flight interrupted due to larvae that fell on passengers from the luggage rack

Earlier this week, a quiet Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit turned into chaos for economy class passengers. About two hours after takeoff, larvae from rotten fish fell from the overhead compartment of the plane.

One of the passengers' bags containing the rotten fish opened, causing larvae to fall on people from the shelf. The crew decided to turn around and abort the flight, the Independent reports.

After landing, all passengers were ordered to disembark, and the suitcase with the fish was immediately destroyed. The plane itself was also thoroughly cleaned.

One of the passengers, Kelce, told the Daily Mail that Delta identified the owner of the dirty bag and detained him on the plane.

Passengers who were disembarked from the plane received 8,000 air miles, compensation for a hotel room, and a $30 meal voucher.

In an official statement, the company confirmed the incident and apologized to the tourists.

"We apologize to the passengers of flight 133 AMS-DTW as their trip was interrupted due to improperly packed carry-on luggage. The aircraft returned to the gate and the passengers were transferred to the next available flight. The aircraft was taken out of service for cleaning," Delta said in a statement.
