Cathay Pacific's 2023 Sustainability Report unveils ambitious strides towards environmental stewardship and sustainable aviation. At the heart of its initiatives, the airline has pledged to reduce carbon intensity by 12% from its 2019 levels by 2030, underlining a broader commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This is part of Cathay's strategic vision to confront climate change head-on, with a special focus on scaling up the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Partnerships with key industry players like the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) and the Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC) aim to accelerate SAF development, supporting Cathay's goal of using SAF for 10% of its jet fuel consumption by 2030.

In a concerted effort to minimize its environmental footprint, Cathay Pacific is actively reducing single-use plastics and cabin waste, setting ambitious targets to drastically cut down on passenger-facing single-use plastics to 1.5 pieces by 2025 and reduce cabin waste to no more than 0.63 kg per passenger by 2030. These initiatives showcase Cathay's dedication to sustainable resource use and the circular economy.

Beyond environmental efforts, Cathay Pacific is deeply invested in community engagement and employee development. The revitalization of the Cathay Volunteer Team and the launch of the Cathay Academy highlight the airline's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of volunteerism and professional growth.

Cathay Pacific's journey towards sustainability reflects a comprehensive approach, balancing climate action, waste reduction, and community involvement. These efforts not only demonstrate Cathay's commitment to environmental responsibility but also its vision for a sustainable future in aviation.
