Cathay and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dubai during the 80th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting. This landmark agreement is set to enhance sustainable travel by promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and implementing eco-friendly practices across their operations.

With the MoU signed by Cathay Group CEO Mr. Ronald Lam and Singapore Airlines CEO Mr. Goh Choon Phong, both airlines are solidifying their commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This collaboration aims to significantly impact the future of air travel, making it greener and more sustainable.

One major focus of this partnership is the advocacy for greater use of SAF in the Asia-Pacific region. By raising public awareness about SAF's critical role in reducing aviation emissions and pushing for supportive policies, Cathay and SIA are paving the way for a more eco-friendly flying experience. They also plan to explore joint procurement of SAF, which will help boost its production and wider adoption, ensuring travelers can enjoy a greener journey.

Beyond fuel, the airlines are also dedicated to sharing best practices for reducing single-use plastics, minimizing waste, and improving energy efficiency in ground and cargo operations. These efforts will contribute to more sustainable airport operations, ultimately benefiting eco-conscious travelers.

For travelers, this collaboration between Cathay and Singapore Airlines means a step towards more environmentally responsible flying options. As both airlines work together to develop sustainable solutions, passengers can expect greener travel experiences, contributing to a more sustainable future for the aviation industry.
