Billund Airport is adding more summer travel options as Norwegian prepares to launch two new direct routes to southern Europe. The services to Malta and Nice complete a wider set of nine new Norwegian routes from Billund. The update gives holidaymakers more choice during the airport’s busiest months, while passenger numbers are already rising sharply.

The expansion comes as traffic through Billund continues to grow. In May, 311,396 passengers used the airport, an increase of 18.1% compared with the same month last year. June and July are usually among the airport’s busiest periods, with thousands of holidaymakers passing through each day on their way to popular summer destinations.

What is new at Billund this summer

The airport’s latest update includes:

  • Norwegian flights to Malta from 3 June
  • Norwegian flights to Nice from 12 June
  • 3D scanners for liquids up to 2 litres in hand luggage
  • Denmark’s first standalone Circle K shop without a petrol station

The new routes make Malta and the French Riviera easier to reach directly from Billund. Malta opens up Valletta, coastal towns, beaches and island trips, while Nice gives access to Cannes, Antibes, Monaco and the wider Côte d’Azur. The 3D scanners should also make security simpler for people carrying toiletries, drinks or family travel items.

Billund is heading into summer with more than extra flights. The airport is adding direct holiday routes, smoother hand-luggage screening and a quick food-and-drink stop in the terminal. For people using western Denmark’s main airport, the season should bring more choice and fewer small airport headaches.
